In a Chinese language the word for crisis is written out as a combination of two other words: danger and opportunity. In English, one definition for crisis is a turning point. Third Level maintains a 24 hour crisis line for our Northern Michigan community for times when we all feel overwhelmed and in crisis.

Our crisis services are free of charge for whomever wishes to call our 24 hour line, or come in to our offices at 1022 E. Front Street. All our calls are answered live by a trained crisis counselor, so you will be speaking directly to the counselor. Crisis line staff are available to you to listen, help you problem solve, and help you decide what your next steps should be.

Some of the other services provided by the crisis line include suicide prevention. Third Level is a crisis line that answers the nation wide Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Our staff are specifically trained in suicide intervention and will work to help you or your loved ones in times of suicidal crisis as well.

Also the crisis line has access to an Information and Referral database of human service resources in Northern Michigan. We are working closely with 211 and provide them with our information on all the human services in our community. So for example, we can provide referrals to places that provide low cost counseling, food pantries, or places to get help paying a utility bill.

And the crisis line is also the after hours access point for the mental health system in 19 counties in Northern Michigan. We will be the first point of contact for their clients, family members of clients, and other professionals seeking access to the Emergency Services Community Mental Health worker.

Third Level makes use of paid staff and trained volunteers on the crisis lines. If you are interested in becoming a crisis line volunteer please click here.
