Counseling Skills and Crisis Intervention Training.

Three times per year Third Level offers Counseling Skills and Crisis Intervention Training. Listening skills are the foundation on which we build healthy understanding and theraputic alliances. We believe that through deep understanding of our client's position we can assist with progress and change.

Crisis intervention begins with this understanding and goes deeper as, with the assistance of our knowledge we can help clients find their own, internal, familial, local and State resouces. This knowledge provides options and with options ourselves and those we help can find direction.

Counseling skills and crisis intervention training will cover the following:

  • Active listening and understanding.
  • Empathy.
  • What is a crisis.
  • What can we do and what are our limitations?
  • Suicideology. (risk assessment, colaboration, safety planning, follow up)
  • Mental Illness.
  • Substance Abuse.
  • Working with families of all ages.
  • Ethics.

Gaining knowledge in these areas will not only help you help others but it will create a place for real self-exploration and growth.

If you find that these things are of interest to you and you have a desire to help others please fill out a volunteer or intern application and submit it to Ryan DeMarsh, rdemarsh@third level.org or 231-922-4802, to schedule an interview.

Our training schedule is intense and it is strongly encouraged that you be able to make it to all sessions. Following this free training we are asking that people commit to a minimum 150 hours of volunteer or intern time with Third Level.

At Third Level I learned skills and techniques for assisting individuals in a crisis situation. The educational, yet relaxed training sessions facilitated an environment in which those of us in training were able to learn and grow, both through practice and by being exposed to eachother’s personal, unique styles. I’ve been able to use what I learned in Third Level’s training, not only as a budding counselor, but in my personal life as well. I am grateful to be a part of Third Level and to be able to positivly impact other’s lives in thier time of crisis.”
